Pet Care Facilities Prefer Epoxy Flooring

Pet Care Facilities Prefer Epoxy Flooring

Epoxy flooring provides a healthy environment for pets in veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, and kennels. The epoxy covering can be extended up the walls and get down into the troughs of a concrete floor.

It creates a waterproof surface that has no cracks or seams for germs and dirt to hide. An epoxy floor resists

  • Strong detergents
  • Disinfectants
  • Urine

It has an antimicrobial additive that restricts microorganism growth. The restriction provides the added benefit of reducing odors associated with degrading bacteria. The antimicrobial additive in epoxy floors is different than that of another flooring.

Other floors typically have an antimicrobial layer that is easily breached with chemicals and harsh detergents. The antimicrobial additive in epoxy is an integral part of the system. Protection is provided from top to bottom.

It impedes microorganism growth and protects against a broad spectrum of

  • Actinomycetes
  • Bacterial
  • Fungi
  • Mildew
  • Yeast

Epoxy flooring is pourable and trowel-able. It is made with some of the highest quality resins available. The non-porous flooring is unaffected by bodily fluid discharge. That feature makes epoxy an excellent choice for veterinary practices and boarding facilities.

Besides the antimicrobial properties, other benefits of epoxy include:

  • Slip resistance
  • Easy to clean
  • Durability
  • Attractive

Slip Resistance

Marble chips are added to epoxy to give it a texture that is ribbed, pebbled, and coarse, but non-abrasive. The surface is slip resistant. Areas that are not constantly wet do not need the additional grit. The natural stone texture has non-slip properties.

The non-slip additive supplements the existing texture in such places as pet bathing areas. It is added to the glaze to create a sandpaper like finish that provides excellent fall and slip protection, even when the floor is wet.

Easy to Clean

Cleaning consists of mopping the floor with water and detergent. Because the floor is non-porous, grime and grit are easily removed. Floors that are exposed to chemicals can be washed with a deck brush and thoroughly rinsed every day. Epoxy floors can be power washed.

Durability

The resin-rich formula of epoxy seeps into the wood or concrete substrate as it cures. It becomes part of the floor. Epoxy floors will not peel or crack. The strong, but flexible, flooring holds up to heavy traffic without a problem. Wear patterns will not show.

Attractive

Making a positive impression on human customers is important. There is a wide variety of beautiful and bright colors available that create a welcoming environment for clients and their pets.
